Estidama - Pearl Rating System

The Pearl Rating System (PRC)for Estidama is the green building rating system for the emirate of Abu Dhabi in United Arab Emirates (UAE). Estidama Certification was launched in year 2010 by Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council (ADUPC) as a building certification system for its Estidama Program.

Estidama is a Arabic word, which means 'sustainability' in Arabic language, Estidama Certification is an initiative focusing to "transform Abu Dhabi into a model of sustainable urbanization". The Estidama  Certification is the "first program of its type that is tailored to the Middle East region" .

Estidama Certification was developed through the collaboration between different stakeholders in Abu-Dhabi including the Urban-Planning-Council (ADUPC), Department of Transport (ADDoT) and the Environment Agency (EAD). Aspiration for the Estidama Certification and its Pearl rating systems (PRC) came from Plan 2030 year, an ambitious urban development plan introduced by the (Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council in year 2007.

Estidama Certification is depend on 4-main concepts, dubbed the "4-pillars of Estidama", which are: -

1.     Environmental

2.      Economic

3.      Cultural

4.     Social.

Pearl rating systems (PRC) comprise 2 kind of credits: -

1.      Required

2.      Optional.

Required Credits -  Designated with ‘R′, are compulsory credits which must be met by each project submitting for a Pearl rating. Required Credits reflect compliance with currently applicable or emerging governmental policies; therefore no points are awarded for geting these credits.

Optional Credits - On the other-hand, are voluntary performance credits for which one or more points may be attained. The number of credits and the points needed for a project depends on the Pearl rating level being pursued by the project team. There are 5-Pearl rating levels that can be get by a project ranging from one to 5-pearls depending on the number of points earned (with a maximum of 140 points).
