Green Building Certification To Support Residents Save Energy Bills
AL Safat Certification is launched by Dubai City Municipality. Al Safat Certifcation will support residents and commercial save their energy bills on the long run. Under the new project system, AL Safat Certification has become compulsory for all Dubai buildings project (Commercial & Residential) to follow green-infrastructure through getting requirements for minimum bronze certification .However, building owner are encouraged to apply for elements to qualify for three remaining categories of platinum, gold & silver that will improve environmental advantage and save more energy.
The new building rating system, which will go in action in September, will assure
structures are environmentally responsible, resource efficient and produce less
carbon-emissions.
The green building code has been introduced since 2011 year where more than %
of new buildings in Dubai have already became green.
But since March-2014 until June-2016, the Building Department licensed more
than 16,000 green buildings with a total land area of more than 179 million
square feet.
Engineer Mr. Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director-General of Dubai Municipality (DM),
said while buildings currently follow basic green-practices in their roof-installation,
use of lighting and ventilation, requirements will go higher for upper
categories that offer more environmental advantage.
"We focuses to have buildings that will stop producing-waste or relying on
other sources of water and electricity. getting
sustainable buildings that will completely rely on its own resources is the
target," said Lootah.
He stated that for more than 125,000 old buildings that were built before 2001
year, certain environmental practices will be introduced to modify energy-use
and minimize energy consumption.
Engineer Mr. Essa Al Haj Al Maidoor, the Deputy Director General of Dubai Municipality,
said Al Safat Certification was introduced after studying 255 worldwide
practices with the focus to evaluate & select law that would have
environmental-impact.

Safat Certification is not just building
rating, it is a Certification system for
buildings. Building Owners and contractor cannot get permit if they do not
follow green building guideline," saidMr. Al Maidoor the Deputy Director General of Dubai
Municipality,.

The Dubai Municipality head of the research department and building systems
Eng. Mr. Ahmed Saeed Al Bidwawi said the new building rating system will support
residents pick-buildings with right practices and determine how much they can
save energy.
He added a "significant" minimize of energy costs will be witnessed
depending on the types of the building.
"A building that is platinum certified will support residents save more
energy than a gold certified building," said Mr. Al Bidwawi.
He stated that classifications introduced will give building-owners marketing
value and will promote competition for sustainability among building contractor.
While Obtain Al Safat Certifiction will raise building cost to 5-10%, there
will be a rent limit upon owners of different categories. Rent-price limits are
currently under discussion.
Al Safat Green Building System will replace Dubai Green Building Regulations and specifications. Al Safat Certification intend to help Dubai’s Strategic Plan, create a more sustainable urban environment and extend the ability of the Emirate’s infrastructure to meet the requirements of future development.
